BISTEK TAGALOG or BEEFSTEAK

Bistek Tagalog or Beefsteak consists of thinly sliced beef that has been simmered in soy sauce, calamansi juice, garlic, crushed black pepper, and onions chopped into rings. Pork can also be used in the recipe instead of beef. This dish is said to be originated in tagalog region of the Philippines. It is often served over plain rice.

How to cook BISTEK TAGALOG or BEEFSTEAK

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 kg Beef Sirloin thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup Soy Sauce
  • 1 piece Lemon juiced
  • 1/2 tsp Ground Black Pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Cooking Oil
  • 4 cloves Garlic minced
  • 3 med Onion sliced into rings
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 pinch salt

Instructions
 

  • Marinate beef in soy sauce, lemon, and ground black pepper for at least 1 hour, ideally overnight.
    1/2 kg Beef Sirloin, 1/2 cup Soy Sauce, 1 piece Lemon, 1/2 tsp Ground Black Pepper
  • Pan fry half of the onions until the texture becomes soft and set aside
    2 tablespoons Cooking Oil, 3 med Onion
  • Pan fry beef for 1 minute each side and set aside. Save the remaining marinate.
    1/2 kg Beef Sirloin
  • Saute garlic and remaining raw onions until onion softens.
    4 cloves Garlic, 3 med Onion
  • Pour the remaining marinade and water and bring to boil.
    1 cup water
  • Add beef and and simmer until meat is tender (more water can be needed as required).
  • Season with ground black pepper and salt as needed.
    1 pinch salt, 1/2 tsp Ground Black Pepper
  • Transfer into a serving plate and top with fried onions.

Notes

Store in a sealed container in the fridge and consume within 2 days.
Reheat in a covered pan with 4 tbsp water in moderate heat and boil for 2 mins before serving.
Microwave reheating instruction: Reheat in a microwave safe dish for 3 mins in full power.
Make sure food is pipping hot before serving.

  • Store in a sealed container in the fridge and consume within 2 days.
  • Reheat in a covered pan in moderate heat and boil with small amount of water for 3 mins before serving.
  • Microwave reheating instruction: Reheat in a microwave safe dish for 3 mins in full power.
