GINISANG MONGGO with Chicharon
Ginisang Monggo is always a hit to most Filipino Friday Menu. Because Filipino’s meal is usually consists of a meat-source and rice most of the time, it has been thought by enthusiasts to make 1day/week a vegetable-day to make up for the week’s worth of unbalanced meal. This vegetable is always monggo-day because monggo is very affordable to any level of the society.
For many catholics, this has always been the practice due to the belief that meat is forbiden to be eaten every Friday as thought by the church since the Spanish Regime brought catholicism in the country during the Spanish Colony.
These are the reason why there are a lot of version of monggo recipe in the Philippines.

How to cook GINISANG MONGGO (with Chicharon):
Ingredients
- 1.5 cups Monggo ilaga at ligisin(boiled & mashed)
- 3 cloves Bawang - pino
- 1 med Sibuyas - hiwain ng manipis
- 1 dash Pamintang Durog
- 3-4 baso Tubig
- 1 piece Knorr Cube
- 1 cup Chicharon - crushed
- 1 cup Talbos ng Sili or baby spinach
Instructions
- Igisa ang bawang at sibuyas sa mainit na lutuan at katamtamang apoy.3 cloves Bawang, 1 med Sibuyas
- Lagyan ng paminta at halu-haluin 1-2 mins sa lutuan.1 dash Pamintang Durog
- Isama ang nilagang monggo, tubig at knorr cube.1.5 cups Monggo, 3-4 baso Tubig, 1 piece Knorr Cube
- Ilagay ang chicharon at pakuluan ng 20 mins sa mahinang apoy.1 cup Chicharon
- Isama ang tabos ng sili, haluin at takpan hanggang sa maluto ang talbos.1 cup Talbos ng Sili or baby spinach
- Tikman at i-adjust ang alat ayon sa iyong panlasa.
- Ihain ng mainit na may topping na malutong na chicharon sa ibabaw.
Ginisang Monggo with Chicharon Storage and Reheating Instructions:
- Store Ginisang Monggo with Chicharon in a sealed container in the fridge and consume within 2 days.
- Reheat in a covered pan in moderate heat and boil with small amount of water for 3 mins before serving.
- Microwave reheating instruction: Reheat in a microwave safe dish for 3 mins in full power.
- Make sure food is pipping hot before serving.
